“In New York City, Hundreds Become U.S. Citizens 
Just in Time to Vote”
Executive Director Angela Fernandez, Esq. and NMCIR is featured October 15, 2016 New York Times article about our citizenship work.
But the Northern Manhattan Coalition for Immigrant Rights, which helped prepare 600 applications for citizenship over the last year, has noticed a substantial lag time in processing in 2016, which has resulted in some people not being naturalized in time to vote, Angela Fernandez, the group’s executive director, said. It took only three months to process applications in New York at this time last year, but now took longer than five months, she said.

NMCIR is partnering with Hispanic Federation and Telemundo for an all-day DACA drive. We will be providing clients legal assistance on properly submitting their DACA and DACA renewals.
You may be eligible for Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals if you:
  • Were under the age of 31 as of June 15, 2012;
  • Came to the United States before reaching your 16th birthday;
  • Have continuously resided in the United States since June 15, 2007, up to the present time;
  • Were physically present in the United States on June 15, 2012, and at the time of making your request for consideration of deferred action with USCIS;
  • Had no lawful status on June 15, 2012;
  • Are currently in school, ESL, or a general education development (GED) program, have graduated or obtained a certificate of completion from high school, have obtained a GED certificate, or are an honorably discharged veteran of the Coast Guard or Armed Forces of the United States; and
  • Have not been convicted of a felony, significant misdemeanor, or three or more other misdemeanors, and do not otherwise pose a threat to national security or public safety.

Y RENOVACIÓN DE DACA

NMCIR, en colaboración con Hispanic Federation y Telemundo ofrecerá una campaña de DACA. Proveerémos asistencia legal para entregar correctamente solicitudes de DACA y Renovación de DACA.
 
Puede ser elegible para DACA si usted:
  • Era menor de 31 años de edad en fecha 15 de junio de 2012;
  • Entró a los Estados Unidos antes de cumplir 16 años de edad;
  • Ha residido de manera ininterrumpida en los Estados Unidos desde el 15 de junio de 2007, hasta la actualidad;
  • Estuvo físicamente presente en los Estados Unidos en fecha 15 de Junio de 2012, y en el momento de presentar la solicitud para la consideración de acción diferida con USCIS;
  • No tenía ningún estatus legal en fecha 15 de junio de 2012;
  • En este momento está en la escuela, cursa ESL, o un programa de desarrollo en educación general (GED) se han graduado u obtenido un certificado de graduación de la escuela secundaria, han obtenido un certificado de GED, o si es un veterano retirado honorable de la Guardia Costera o las Fuerzas Armadas de la Estados Unidos; y
  • No ha sido condenado por un delito grave, un delito menor significativo, o tres o más delitos menores, y no representa una amenaza para la seguridad nacional o la seguridad pública.
